We created SumUp as a consulting company in 2012 with the goal of understanding how text analytics could be applied towards practical business insights.
We have distilled our experiences from many successful collaborations with industry partners into innovative products that aim to impact day-to-day business in large corporations faced with big data challenges, with a particular focus on retail, advertising and energy verticals.
We have built a core analytics platform and several derived products.
We are now growing our team and company around those products.
Our team includes experts in data science and technology from UC Berkeley, Stanford and Politecnico de Torino. We also employ an array of talented consultants for our collaborative projects.
Acting CEO, lead developer
Andrew graduated with a PhD in EECS from UC Berkeley in 2015, and is now leading our team.
Alessandro graduated from Politecnico de Torino in 2014, and is now in charge of the development of several of our products.
Laurent El Ghaoui
Laurent is a Professor, on leave from UC Berkeley's EECS department, with expertise in machine learning and optimization algorithms. He has extensive consulting experience in the retail, advertising, energy and finance industries.
Trevor is our scientific advisor in all matters statistical. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Statistics at Stanford University, and the Division of Biostatistics of the Health, Research and Policy Department in the Stanford School of Medicine.
